Mary E. Moran

Mary Moran has served the Rutland City Public Schools since 1996, first as Assistant Superintendent and, since March 2000, as Superintendent of Education. Prior to moving to Rutland, Ms. Moran, a Boston native, was a public educator in Massachusetts for many years. She was a high school history teacher, class and student council advisor and tennis and volleyball coach in Braintree, served as Assistant Principal at Wellesley High School, and Principal at Franklin High School. Ms. Moran has served on various education and community boards and projects, including the New England Association of Schools & Colleges, the Vermont High School Task Force, the Vermont Superintendents Association, of which she is currently Vice President, and the American Association of School Administrators Governing Board. Locally, Ms. Moran serves on the Teaching American History Project Advisory Board at Castleton State College, is a Past President and current Board Member of the United Way of Rutland County and serves as Vice Chair of the Rutland Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. Ms. Moran graduated from Boston College with a BA in history, with honors. She also holds a Masters degree in American Studies from Boston College and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in School Administration from Northeastern University.

Rob Bliss

Rob Bliss has been the Principal of the Northwest Primary School and the Pierpoint Primary Learning Center since 2000. Rob received his BA degree in Physical Education from Keene State College in New Hampshire in 1986, and a MA degree in Educational Leadership from Castleton State College in 1997. Rob taught Physical Education at Proctor Elementary School and served as Assistant Principal of the Rutland Town Elementary School. He is currently a doctural student with the International Graduate Center working towards a PhD in policy and Leadership. Rob has been an avid soccer coach for years.

Peter Amons serves as the Chief Financial Officer for the school district. Prior to joining the district in September 2004 he served as chief financial officer of a number of software and related technology companies including WebCredit of Needham, Massachusetts, Imaging Automation of Bedford, New Hampshire and DTSS Inc. of Hanover, New Hampshire. As a CFO for high tech companies for over 20 years, he has conducted numerous financings, implemented both growth and cutback budgets, overseen the installation of new accounting and information systems, managed the human resources and in house information technology functions, and participated in the development and implementation of numerous strategic business and financial plans. Mr. Amons graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with a BA degree, departmental honors in economics. In 1974 he graduated from the Wharton Graduate Division of the University of Pennsylvania with an MBA in finance.

Eloise S. McGarry

Eloise (Ellie) McGarry has worked as the District Director of Support Services since 1992. Her department oversees and coordinates services for students identified for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, Section 504, Act 117, English as a Second Language, McKinley Homeless Education Act and the Title I Program. She oversees the district wide Medicaid Program and coordinates programs with community agencies to assist Rutland City students and their families. She serves on the board of Rutland Mental Health Services. Ellie received her BS Degree in Special Education from Bloomsburg University in 1980. She received a Masters in Special Education Degree from the University of Vermont in 1991 and a Certificate of Advance Study in Intensive Special Education also from the University of Vermont in 1992.

Bob Williamson

Bob Williamson is the Rutland Public Schools Technology Director. He is responsible for the management of the District's computer systems and related equipment, phone systems, e-mail and Internet services, computer instruction K-12, and E-Rate funding. He has been employed by the District for most of his professional career, teaching mathematics, natural sciences and computer science at Rutland Junior and Senior High Schools prior to working in his current position. He received a Bachelor's degree from Castleton State College and a Master's degree from the University of Vermont. Bob is a former director of the Lake Bomoseen Association and the Rutland Amateur Hockey Association, and has been actively involved in youth sports programs for many years.

Bruce Williams

Bruce Williams is the Director of Buildings, Grounds and Transportation. He supervises the district maintenance personnel, custodians, bus drivers, bus aides and crossing guards. He has been an employee of the district for over 29 years. He is a lifelong resident of Poultney, Vermont and lives on the land on which he was raised. Mr. Williams graduated from Poultney High School in 1964 and Castleton College in 1973. He is an Air Force veteran and served in Vietnam.  After the service, he worked in a motorcycle shop, for a home builder, and in a furniture factory.

Kristen Hubert

Kristen Hubert was raised in Castleton, VT and went to Fair Haven High School. She attended UVM for her undergraduate in Elementary Education and English and earned her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadershipfrom Castleton State College. Kristen taught for 5 years at Fair Haven Grade School (grades 1, 2, 4, and 7/8 language arts) and served as Principal for the last 3 years at Fisher Elementary School in Arlington, VT.

She is married and has two daughters.

Robin Brown

Robin Brown recently joined the SUCCESS Program as the director in March 2007. Robin’s experiences include teaching special education at the elementary, middle and high school levels as well as regular education at the elementary level. She has taught in Vermont and Florida but prefers Vermont with all of its seasonal changes. Robin earned her BS degree from College of Saint Joseph and her Masters in Educational Leadership from Castleton State College.

Robin is married and enjoys spending time with her husband and two teenage daughters.

Robert Johnson

Principal - Northeast School

Robert Johnson has been the Principal of the Northeast Primary School since 2006.  Prior to joining Rutland City, Bob had been an Elementary Principal in New York State since 1988.  In addition to being a Principal, he was a District Mathematics-Science and Outdoor Education Coordinator for five (5) years and an elementary classroom teacher for twelve (12) years.  Bob has a Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree and Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Administration from the State University College at Brockport, New York.  He has also completed additional course work at Stony Brook University.  Bob has taught numerous in-service and graduate level courses, predominantly in the area of Science Education and has completed curriculum analysis work for the New York State Department of Education.  He is a former PTA President and Treasurer, President of the Administrators Association and Little League Coach and President. He currently serves on the Policy Board of both the Rutland Head Start Program and the Green Mountain Foster Grandparent Program   Bob is married, has three grown children (the last just graduating from the University of Hartford, Hartt School of Music, last spring) and four grandchildren.

Kristin Holsman-Francoeur joined Rutland Intermediate School as Assistant Principal in 2006. Prior to joining RIS, she taught Spanish at Rutland Middle School for five years, served as Program Coordinator for the Foundation for Excellent Schools, and taught Special Education for Rutland Northeast Supervisory Union. Kristin earned her BA from Middlebury College, a Masters in Counseling Psychology from Vermont College of Union Institute, and a second Masters in Educational Leadership from Castleton State College.

    Jay Slenker grew up in Central New York, the son of two public school teachers. He has always enjoyed the outdoors, especially alpine and nordic skiing, hunting deer and pheasant, cycling and participating in triathlons. After graduating from Utica College of Syracuse University with a degree in Social Studies and Education, he moved to Rutland in 1992. He started that year as a substitute teacher at the old Rutland High School, now the Intermediate School. Mr. Slenker was later hired as a Paraeducator, then a Special Educator and eventually a social studies teacher.
    While at Rutland High School as a teacher, he started a very successful Psychology and Advanced Placement Psychology program. Later, he was named Department Chair for the Middle School and High School Social Studies department. One of his other professional accomplishments was as the Director of the Professional Development School for Rutland City Public School and Castleton State College. This program is a collaborative between the Education program at Castleton State and the city school system promoting superior teacher preparation. He moved to Rutland Intermediate School in the summer of 2006.
    Mr. Slenker holds a Masters degree in Special Education and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in School Administration from Castleton State College. His future professional goal is to complete a PhD. Program in School Administration.
    Out of school his time is occupied by his own two elementary age children, his wonderful wife and one large Black Labrador retriever. Mr. Slenker still enjoy skiing, kayaking, hunting and mountain biking.
Rutland Intermediate School has been a great place to start as a new administrator and he is ecstatic to continue working with the children and community of Rutland City.

Wil Cunningham has been the Principal of the Rutland Middle School for eight years. Wil graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in history. Later he earned a Masters in Instruction from SUNY at Albany. He also did post-graduate work in administration at NYU. Wil taught history for 12 years then moved to administration where he has been for the past 16 years. He previously served in the Black River and Castleton school systems. Wil enjoys working with people, especially adolescents. "I like to help bring about positive change for young people, both in their education and their lives. As the sole administrator in a building of over 400 students I play a role in decisions affecting all aspects of the Rutland Middle School experience". Wil has been on the Board of the Crossroads Arts Council for five years.

Peter Folaros has been Principal of Rutland High School since 2001.  Mr. Folaros earned a B.A. in Literature from the University of Richmond, did graduate work in literature at William and Mary College and earned a Masters Degree in Education Leadership from Nova University.  He had served as an English teacher, Dean, Assistant Principal for Curriculum, Coordinator of a Magnet School Program and as Principal prior to moving to Vermont.

Larry Lattanzzi has been at Rutland High School for over ten years.  In his role as Associate Principal, he's responsible fo  the daily operations of the school which includes:  student discipline, evaluations and supervision, attendance procedures, 12th grade liaison and Educational Support Team Coordinator.  In 2002 he was honored by his peers when named the Vermont Associate Principal of the year.  Larry received a B.S. from the University of Nebraska and an M.S. from Southern Connecticut, both in education.  He has also done additional graduate work at UVM.  He began his career in Bedford, N.Y. as the Superintendent of Recreation, Parks and Human Services.  In 1983 he moved to Vermont and began teaching.  He has also coached Girls Varsity Soccer, Basketball and Baseball.  At Woodstock Union high School, Larry was Athletic Director, Dean of Students and Principal.

Andrea McQuade

Andrea McQuade was born in Boston and grew up in western Massachusetts.  She received a Bachelor's degree from Trinity College in Washington, DC and a Master's in Education from the University of Washington in Seattle.  While attending Trinity College, she worked for the Athletic/Guidance Director of a local all boys' high school and became interested in special needs children.  Andrea has taught in Special Education programs at the elementary, middle and high school level in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont.  She has also taught undergraduate and graduate level courses in Special Education, as well as supervises student teachers.  She has lived in the Rutland area since 1978.  Her responsibilities at Rutland High School include the support services programs for students, supervision and evaluation of faculty and staff, general administrative duties and the Parent Partners program. 

Glenn Olson

Glenn Olson was born in Winchester, Massachusetts and is a 1983 graduate of Gordon College in Wenham, Mass.  After graduation he moved to Swanton, Vermont where he taught at Missisquoi Valley Union High School for 5 years before moving to Rutland in 1988. He began his career at Rutland High School in 1988 teaching physical education and coaching varsity ice hockey.  Glenn has served as the Assistant Athletic Director for two years, Athletic/Activities Director for 11 years and is in his 10th year as an Associate Principal.  Glenn's primary responsibilities focus on curriculum, instruction, assessment, and scheduling.

Lyle Jepson has been at the Stafford Technical Center for seven years.  He earned a B.S. in Secondary Education and a Masters in Public School Administration, both at UVM.  He has a wide variety of experiences in his twenty years in education.  Roles have included high school social studies teacher, elementary principal, high school assistant principal, high school principal, assistant director and now Director of Stafford Technical Center.  Lyle helps run a summer camp for adults and children with special needs.

Ted Guilmette

A Vermont native, Ted started his career in education as a teaching graduate assistant at Keene State College. For the past 31years his breadth of experience ranges from being an Industrial Arts teacher at a 7-12 high school, a Building Construction Teacher , Assistant Vocational Director, Assistant High School Principal , Technical Center Director and presently the Assistant Director of Stafford Technical Center. Ted earned his undergraduate degree from Keene State College and Master of Ed. from Saint Michaels College. Ted enjoys many activities when not at work: skiing, traveling, biking, car restoration, and building.

Diana Pfenning

Diana Pfenning is the Director of the Tapestry Program serving Rutland City schools and the schools of the Rutland Central Supervisory Union.  Tapestry provides after school activities and summer programs for students in grades Kindergarten through eighth grade. She was hired during the summer of 2000 to implement a significant grant received from the US Department of Education to establish programs to "Keep the Lights On" in schools during the afternoons and summers.
In addition to a B.S. from Castleton College, Diana has a Masters in Education from Wheelock College.  Diana worked in early childhood education as an owner and teacher in a pre-school kindergarten and day care center; she was also the director of a private school in Massachusetts.  The Tapestry Program has thriving after school sites in three city schools, each of which becomes a full day summer program; a Homework Club and teen activities at the Middle School as well as many tutoring opportunities.  In the past four years, 1,800 students have been served in Tapestry.

Bill Olsen recently became Assistant Principal at Rutland Middle School in 2005. He taught social studies for sixteen years in Austria, Connecticut, the Barstow School and Rutland High School. He has a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study in Educational Administration from Castleton State College, a Master of Arts in Teaching from Boston College, and a Bachelors of Arts from Holy Cross College.
